Peace Among the Peoples

Elkhart, IN; United States

Hosted by Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary Elkhart, IN

Peace Among the Peoples is a gathering of ecumenically minded Christian peacemakers. The conference will be an opportunity to reflect on the future of the ecumenical peace movement in North America, and beyond.

In May 2011, the World Council of Churches will hold the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica, culminating the 2001-2010 Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV) program. The immediate objective of Peace Among the Peoples is to critically appropriate the agenda of the 2011 Convocation.

The meeting will include daily panel presentations from leading thinkers and activists, including Stanley Hauerwas, Vincent Harding, Rita Nakashima Brock and John Perkins. Each day will carry a theme:

  • Thursday – Theological, Ecclesiological and Ethical Foundations for Peace
  • Friday – Tensions in North American Relationships
  • Saturday – Our Future Work Together.

Morning prayer and evening worship will frame the beginning and the ending of each day.
